Ethereal Empyrean Experience: Temple 2020
As a global community we are witnessing a deep sense of vulnerability in ourselves and each other. Your Empyrean Temple team has embraced the virtual pivot and is dedicated to creating an inclusive, healing Temple space where visitors can share, express, process, grieve and heal during this transformative time.

Who wants to go to playa this year? We do! Inspired by the Multiverse theme, a crew of veteran Burners has created BRCvr — Black Rock City in full VR, complete with current and past art installations, structures, theme camps, live talks, classes, and music performances. You will be able to access the event through Windows and Mac computers and most virtual reality headsets.
There is nothing better than exploring the playa with your friends — and now you can. A full at-scale version of Black Rock City is all yours. Lose your friends on the Esplanade; dance to Mayan Warrior; hunt for Daft Punk playing at the trash fence... maybe even get lost in a porta-potty. You can visit the Temple, look for your yearbook photo, or even fly to the top of the Man and set off fireworks.
Just like Black Rock City, it’s not complete without your creativity to communally build it! We welcome your participation and contribution to the collective Burner virtual world. We are here to guide the process, following the Principles of Burning Man to co-create a magical virtual Burn. Get excited… you are coming HOME this year!
How to Participate in BRCvr:
We welcome all theme camps, art installations, art cars, and artists
We are seeking digital designers and artists who do 3D modeling, Maya, Blender, Unity, etc.
Experienced Rangers, Greeters, and/or Temple Guardians are invited to bring your skills to our virtual playa
Visit the BRCvr website to get involved
The Infinite Playa
Welcome to The Infinite Playa, a virtual Burn that will provide participants with the simulated experience of going “Home” without actually leaving their homes. To create an emotional response that gives you the visceral gut check feeling of actually being on the playa, we have painstakingly recreated a photoreal landscape. From the cracked desert floor to the surrounding mountains and the occasional dust storm, Burners will truly feel like they have gone “Home”.
The Infinite Playa will be accessible via VR headset or any browser on a desktop computer or mobile device. Depending on your point of entry, you can have a more passive viewing experience or a fully immersive third-person playable environment in which you can explore, watch live streamed events, connect with friends, look at art (or even create it), play games, and take a ride on a bike or an art car.
Self-expression is a vital part of Burner culture, which is why we are working to create a robust character creator that will enable participants to generate custom avatars that represent how they would like to appear on Playa.
Artists, camps and inspired individuals will all have the opportunity to bring their unique offerings to the Infinite Playa. These can range in scale from art pieces and installations rendered with full 3D detail, to live streamed performances added via greenscreen, talks, yoga classes and interactive Zoom panels. We will be drawing upon the talents and resources of our gifted community to create something truly spectacular and utterly transportative.

The Bridge Experience
The Bridge Experience is an interactive, fully immersive, 3D web-based Virtual Reality (XR) Camp/Burn accessible on any device. We’ve started with our local regional burn — the Love Burn — and are now extending our functionality into the Multiverse, and with your help to the Metaburn(s) and beyond!
Box Office Opens: August 1st
It is a passion project built by new and old Burners who collectively have been pouring their hearts and souls into simplifying the barriers to entry, focusing on virtual experiences and event curation. We have invited some of the smartest people in the world to find the proper approach to bridging our beloved Burning Man Experience to the Multiverse as a spatial wiki and virtual world(s) or Meta Burn(s) as we call them!
Our purpose is to adjoin Virtual Reality (XR) technology with the altruistic principles of immediacy, inclusion, accessibility, self reliance, civic responsibility, communal effort, decommodification, gifting, leave a positive trace, and, of course, self expression and consent. We are grateful to bring these principles into XR, as they have been able to foster a loving community. It is also our honor to pay homage to those who came before us — all the Burners over the years who have provided valuable insight and inspiration into the MetaBurn(s) “The Bridge Experience”.
We welcome the participation of artists, volunteers, greeters, organizers, creatives, techies, trekkies, and camps that want a digital twin (or to create a new camp). You can include art, avatars, and anything else you’d like to exhibit — images, audio, music, videos, live streams, presentations, pre-recorded content, 3D models, and Tilt Brush art.
How to Participate in The Bridge Experience:
We are Burners. We travel every year to a place on earth where all of us as humans are members of one big family. Where a union of people united in giving a gift, and in accepting one another as equals, gives birth to a utopia. We build a city in one of the harshest places on earth, struggle to survive, and enjoy every second of it — because that shared struggle gives birth to a real community where we not only survive, we thrive. The Black Rock Desert is a sacred place where a social experiment takes place. And this experiment teaches us that there is no strong wind that can bend the will and fortitude of a united people. That there is no dust storm that makes us lose sight of our values.
Now that mother nature has yet again challenged us, we are determined to find a way for our family to come together. We will gather in another realm. And we will do that by gifting a never-seen-before technology to our community — built in true Burner style by the force of our communal effort.
Multiverse is a full-scale, virtual interactive Black Rock City including the deep playa. Theme camps are designing their virtual communities and sound stages and will broadcast live events, workshops, and live music. Artists are translating their incredible art into 3D form to be experienced on the playa. Burners will appear as 3D avatars communicating via live voice, in one unified experience, whether on a mobile phone or VR headset.
Although we lose the ability to touch the playa dust, we gain the ability to reach out to the corners of our planet, inviting everyone to learn what is meant by Radical Inclusion and about our culture and values.
For us this is another social experiment: can we achieve the same sense of community we experience in BRC by leaving our bodies behind in this dimension and taking our consciousness to another so we can gather once again? What if we can? Let’s try.

We share your longing to explore the playa, and to once again greet old friends while making new ones. This year, we’re going to need an accessible digital landscape that fosters that magical feeling of adventure and serendipity. Unfortunately, the current technology we’ve all been forced to use isn’t magical at all, and has probably left you skeptical of a digital Burn Week. But now, more than ever, we need that magic. And if there was ever a community that conjures the extraordinary — it’s this one. It’s you.
Alongside the burner community, we’re providing Build-A-Burn, an interactive digital space that has already hosted events, including fantastical remote Burns, heart-opening weddings, and somber funerals — all by empowering the community to celebrate their creativity.
During the event, you’ll wander a delightful art-filled playa with old friends and discover new ones. Together, you’ll bend the reality of time and space, authentically connect with others in facilitated workshops, stand too close to some of your favorite DJ’s, and more.
To us, Radical Inclusion means that everyone should be able to attend. Build-A-Burn will be free to all — all you need is a browser and webcam. Invite a few friends and jump into the preview to find out what’s to come. Reach the end of the preview to submit your camp and have your own space to brainstorm with campmates. Together we’ll co-create a magical Burn Week.
How to Participate in Build-A-Burn:
In the SparkleVerse, we believe online Black Rock City will be as profound, intimate, and extravagant as the spatially centralised Burns of yesteryear.
To that end, we've created tools for artists, theme camp organizers, and mutant vehicle mechanics to create immersive clickable spaces through which to deliver whatever imagination calls forth: whether it be music, camp accommodation, a theme bar, an RV, a kitchen, an art piece, or a trash fence party. The power of these virtual venues is that they provide an essential wrapper of context, poetry and scarcity, and so amplify the intimacy and intensity of any event.
Accessible via any mobile or desktop web browser, experiences people create will sit on our 2-D explorable playa map, with its uniquely located video avatars and ambient audio (for Burners to enjoy serendipity as they pootle around on their personal odysseys); these experiences can also be linked to directly from any other playa map.
The SparkleVerse runs on an open source software developed to aid us in developing extravagant online parties. Its features include:
Identity and in-browser video, chat, and profiles for guests in your space
Interactive map, theme camp and venue builder to build your miniature online part of the Burn
Templates to get started: theme camp, jazz bar, conversation space, dance floor, theater, RV, etc.
— and components too (e.g 1:1 video chat)
Ability to host parties / events / proto-camps continuously in the run-up to Black Rock City on
the platform to evolve and perfect your spaces

MysticVerse is a fully immersive, interactive 3D experience: a visionary expression of a virtual Black Rock City. Complete with theme camps, art installations, live events, deep playa, and more. Play in the MysticVerse using any device (mobile, desktop, VR) and any operating system.
We are all artists at heart — MysticVerse is an artist’s playground inviting your wildest dreams and imagination to manifest on a virtual playa. Our VR platform is designed to empower you to harness your inner artist. We give you the ability to create your own virtual contributions, guided by our team of experts. You can even collaborate with other artists, in real-time, to curate art scenes. Regardless of your technical capabilities, you can help bring the virtual playa to life.
Our mission is to demystify the process of creating virtual experiences and invite those interested in participating beyond being a spectator. Each year, Build Week is a rite of passage. We pour our love and sweat into transforming the playa from a barren desert to a magical dust-opia. Through this shared experience of creating beauty, we are transformed. By harmonising our efforts, we transcend individual limitations and enter a new realm of possibilities, where the ever-expanding scale and complexity of art each year becomes achievable.
It takes a village to build the Playa...
In the spirit of radical participation, we invite you to join our Digital Village of artists, 2D & 3D modelers, programmers, project managers, UX/UI designers, technologists, visionaries, volunteers, and all-around conscious contributors. No matter your level of expertise, we just ask that you come willing to learn, contribute, and participate in the energy of manifesting a shared vision.
While our journey to the Playa looks a little different this year, it’s just as important as ever to connect and support each other as we ride out this storm and eagerly await the day when we reunite in our home-away-from-home.
See you in the MysticVerse,
Simeone “Eno” Scaramozzino and Timothy “C-Rex” Johnson
How to Participate in MysticVerse:
BURN2 is the virtual extension of Burning Man and its community, one Burning Man regional among more than 100 first world Regional groups. It is completely volunteer-run with the goal of spreading Burning Man culture and Burning Man Project’s 10 Principles year round.
Every year in October, art installations are on display on the virtual playa, and combined with a non-stop schedule of DJs and live performers along with the best traditions of Burning Man. Numerous volunteers welcome visitors to BURN2's event of Art, Fire and Community, and once on the Deep Hole playa, Burners become active participants — for there are no such things as bystanders with us.
During the rest of the year, BURN2 organises other seasonal events to provide more opportunities for Burners and creatives to participate, and they are held in accordance with Burning Man Project’s 10 Principles.
Coming up in August, BURN2 will participate in the Burning Man VRC week with a 3D replication and burn of the Empyrean Temple on our Deep Hole virtual playa. We will also offer several past Man builds, art installations, and "how to" workshops on topics requested by Burners new to virtual environments. These activities can be live streamed, much like what was shown at the ARTery in Black Rock City.
